Do you know what a seasoned model is? What does it mean?

You will hear this word a lot in the modeling industry almost as much as you hear the words New Face. What is the difference?

If you are a new model what does it take to be a seasoned model?

A Seasoned Model is a model who has experience in the industry. 1) A Model who has worked in front of the camera 2) A Model who has a working book also know as portfolio 3) Can move in front of the camera 4) Someone who has done the “shows” 5) Has tear sheets

Let’s start with a model that has experience in front of the camera. What does that mean? If I have experience working with my friends or my family taking photographs of me does that make me seasoned? NO. A Seasoned model has worked with several different photographers to build their modeling book. They have several different looks that they know how to portray, they have many different expressions that they can work on demand and they have a variety of moves in front of the camera. They know how to project on film in front of the camera and on the runways. Models become seasoned from experience of doing it.

How do you get this by doing test shoots, booking jobs, catalogs, magazines, shows, editorial layouts and covers?

So what is your portfolio it is your body of work if you are a seasoned model, the tear sheets from bookings, catalog pages, magazine pages, covers, editorial layouts – all of these are tear sheets that are put into your book. Each time you do a new booking you will add your new work and sometimes take out older work to show a new look or new campaign you will constantly update your book as you go thru your career. You will always update with new photo test shoots. Seasoned Models know what the client is looking for and know how to take direction.

So then what is a “New Face”

A “New Face is exactly that a “New Face to the industry. A new model who may or may not be signed to an agency yet, just starting their career, just starting to build their book.

Always remember to stay healthy, eat right, get plenty of sleep and follow an exercise program that works for you.
