Models Diet and Exericse Advice and Tips!
We are happy to have with us Andy Tachuk personal trainer and owner Conquer Your Body to share his advice with us.
Proper exercise and diet for Models.
A good model exudes happiness. A great model exudes confidence. Great models work at their craft and know that it’s important to be healthy and fit to enjoy a rewarding career. Understanding the basics of a models diet and exercise can go a long way to contribute towards a positive modeling experience. Keep it simple and keep the following exercise and diet tips in mind as you go forward.
5 Exercise Tips:
- Exercise regularly. Try to work out at least 4 times a week. Working out the day of your photo shoot maintains muscle tone and shape. Problem areas can be minimized by increasing muscle tone just prior to the shoot by pulling in fat and loose skin. A good trainer can teach you how to spot train to improve a problem area effectively.
- Avoid exercises that promote a bulky look. Your training exercises need to be full-bodied in nature, with a higher rep count so as to create long supple musculature instead of “body-builder” short and fat musculature.
- Get some expertise in your corner. A healthy and fit body is important for this industry. Look for a competent professional trainer who has experience working with models and knows exactly what results you need to attain.
- Have a workout program that you can take on the road. It’s important to maintain a familiar workout program when you’re traveling. Have a program that can be done in a gym, at home or in a hotel room (link to our page from here)
- Educate yourself about your body. Ensure your trainer has a complete understanding of how the body works and what body type modeling agencies are looking for. Learn how to manage and deal with sore muscles, minimize bruising, muscle tears and small injuries.
5 Diet Tips:
- Eat regularly to keep your metabolism elevated. The best way to lose weight or keep weight off is by eating five to six times a day. Keep in mind you need to stay away from heavy carbohydrates like breads, pasta and rice, and starches such as potatoes. These foods will bulk you up and lead to bloating.
- Do not allow yourself to go hungry. That includes starving yourself or skipping meals. Having an eating disorder like bulimia or anorexia is not cool and extremely unhealthy. I was a bulimic for many years in my youth. My teeth turned yellow, my hair was brittle and my skin looked like an alligator. I also looked about 10 years older than I really was. If you do have an eating disorder, please talk to someone about it. I did.
- Eat a balanced diet. Your diet should include low or no-fat dairy, extremely lean meats with the bulk of your diet coming from vegetables and some fruits. Proper nutrition keeps your bowel movements regular and reduces gases and bloating. Vegetables will do wonders for your skin, teeth, hair and eye color.
- You are what you eat. Photo shoots can be long arduous days. While caffeine can give you a boost of energy, it’s not long lasting (and it stains your pearly whites). Sugar highs bring on sugar lows, and simple carbohydrates like sugar tend to produce a bloating effect by fuelling the yeast in your digestive tract to produce excess gas. Minimize caffeine and sugars and stick to healthy vegetable and fruit snacks instead to keep a balanced diet.
- Watch what you drink. Keep your body hydrated by drinking water (one to two liters a day is sufficient). Your models diet should also consist of plenty of fresh juice for beautiful skin.
When you look good, you feel good and that comes out in your pictures. Two things you can do to ensure that you feel great are to eat well (and regularly) and keep fit. You don’t have to work out hard, just work out smart. For more information, please visit my website.
