The exposure and experience from this type of booking can lead to bigger things in your fashion career. Among other benefits...

You could have your tresses done by some high-profile stylists end up with a new look that defines your image.

There's also the bonus of working with professional photographers who will usually supply you with high quality, digital copies of the images for your portfolio.

Tips for Getting Work

  1. Keep your hair in the best condition possible. Say "No" to coloring, highlighting, straightening, etc. Avoid excessive heat styling from dryers and flat irons.
  2. Use deep conditioning treatments on a weekly basis. These treatments can easily be done at home by applying a quality reconstructing and/or moisturizing product to clean, towel dried and then wrapping it in a towel for 20-30 minutes.
  3. Go into casting calls with confidence and be flexible about what you will and won't allow the stylists to do with your. At the same time, be cautious about any drastic changes that could hamper your future booking opportunities. If you are represented by an agency always ask your agent what changes to your look you can make.
  4. Create a listing in Style Hair Magazine's Hair Model Directory to boost your online exposure.

Will You Get Paid?

You won't be paid for ALL show bookings. However there are other benefits, such as exposure to industry pros, high-end styling/coloring services, and tear sheets for your portfolio that you may find valuable. Sometimes there are fun freebies too, like hair products or tools!

Doing the shows is always a great place to start if you are new to the industry working for experience.
