Fashion Models
Fashion Models Getting an agency .. and what to do if you don't.

When you don’t get accepted by an agency what should you do?
We get asked this question all the time.. I went to so and so agency and they would not represent me. Why not?
Well there are lots of reasons for an agency not to accept a new model.
1)Make sure before you visit with an agency for an open call or audition that you have the right look for the agency.
2)Don’t go to a fashion agency when you know that you are a commercial model. 3)Ask the agency on the phone what their fashion models requirements are. 4)Example we hear all the time girls who are 5’3 who go to a fashion agency when the height requirement of the agency is 5’9 and over. This will waste your time and the agents. 5)Do your homework and know what each agency on your list looks for.
So what if you meet all the requirements for the agency you are interviewing with and still don’t get representation from the agency?
1)They may already have a model with a look that is similar to yours.
2)They are not accepting new models at this time.
3)They may need to see more photos on you
4)You may not have enough experience for the agency.
5)Your look is just not the right look for the agency
Every agency is different
One agency may only take on fashion models. Another agency may only take on new models that have a great book with lots of tear sheets in their book. A commercial agency may only be taking on new models actors etc who have acting experience or extensive training. If you are going to be interviewing with commercial agencies there are several things to do before hand that will help you get signed to an agency
1)lst there is no real height requirement for acting and commercial work. 2)Commercial agencies do expect you to have a good headshot and resume. 3)Take acting classes in school or with a coach.
4)Create a monologue for yourself so that you have something to read if they ask you to read for them.
5)Have a few good references of people that you have worked with. Photographers, acting coaches, directors so that the agency can see that you have worked with professionals in the industry. 6)School plays, Summer Theater do count as having some experience in acting and will give you a head start.
If you lst don’t succeed at getting an agency try and try again if you really want to work in the industry. Take the advice that you get from all the agencies that you visit and work on yourself, be it your book, your readings, moving in front of the camera, your expressions.. take the advice they give to you and learn from it and grow.
It sometimes takes more that one visit to an agency sometimes two or three times.. don’t give up after the lst agency you visit. Don’t take not being picked up by an agency personally they know exactly what they are looking for and not looking to waste your time or there’s. They accept models who they know will be able to work in the industry..Nothing is ever a guarantee.
