Plus Size Model Search Interview With Nancy Baum

We sat down for a virtual chat with Nancy Baum, Owner and President of Cherished-Woman.com, to hear more about Cherished Woman's exciting Plus Size Model Search.

Baum, herself a former plus size model founded Cherished-Woman.com out of sheer frustration of not being able to find trendy, upscale plus size clothes for her and realized she was not alone in her desire to be dressed as fashion forward as possible, despite being plus size. In addition to carrying a nice variety of designer fashions another part of her site is focused on discovering the next “real woman” to be Cherished- Woman.com’s new spokes model.

[Renee’] Can you give us a little background on how you got started in Plus Size Modeling?

[Nancy] I sent my pictures to all the modeling agencies that had plus size divisions as well as going to open calls. It finally paid off and I was signed by a major agency and started working right away. The first time I saw my picture in an advertisement was the most exciting feeling ever!

[Renee’] Now you’ve made the switch from model to business owner. What made you include a model search as part of the focus of your site?

[Nancy] I wanted to give real women the opportunity to model on Cherished-Woman.com. In addition, it’s a big selling feature to have the clothes shown on a curvier body. I know when I shop for clothes online I prefer to see the items on a plus model versus straight model or mannequin.

[Renee’] Are there some basic requirements the models must have to be considered for your site?

[Nancy] No experience is necessary but we do have some minimum height and size requirements. A potential model must be at least 5’8” tall and a size 14-16. In addition, they must be local to Los Angeles or be willing to fly to LA at their own expense for fashion shoots.

[Renee’] If someone is interested in being considered as the next Cherished Model winner what should they do?

[Nancy] They should send an email to: modelsearch@cherished-woman.com and include two pictures: one headshot and one full body. They will need to include their bust, waist, and hip measurements along with pant and dress sizes and contact information. Once we receive the entries they are reviewed by a panel of experts who will help make the selection. We are actively looking for our next model winner that will appear on our website in our fall campaign.
