When will you work with a stylist?
These professional talents are hired by the clients, ad agencies, catalog companies and magazines.
They are hired to do the hair and makeup for the models on set .
Wardrobe or clothing stylists are hired to bring the clothing the models will be wearing on set.
Sometimes models are asked to bring some things along for the shoot like shoes, jeans .
Most items everyone has in their closets.
On some shoots as discussed models will be required to do their own hair and makeup.

--these are the different stylists who will be on set for bookings and also for your test shoots.
Hair and makeup can be used to just add natural enhancement or used to add the dramatic.
Stylists can make a model look like she is older or younger depending on what the client is looking for in his shoot.
They can change the look of the model with each outfit change.
Some changes will be from a soft daytime look to a dramatic evening look complete with accessories.
They will also change the look of the model depending on the location of the shoot .
If shooting in the daylight on a beach, or in a park the look will most often be soft and natural.
If the client is shooting in a night club or restaurant they will make the look more glamorous.
All these different looks will be achieved with hair, makeup , wardrobe and the direction the model and the photographer will take it.

While working on an editorial shoot we asked Elke what she looks for in a model?.
Most of all, a great attitude is a must. A model that is happy to be there and likes her job is much easier to work with than someone with an attitude. I’ve seen models get cut out of editorials because no one liked working with them. And we’re also less likely to recommend the model to other photographers and magazine editors that we work with. A good attitude is key.
What is important for a model to know about being on a professional photo shoot ?
Professionalism, be on time. If a girl is 30 minutes late, that can throw off an entire shoot and the model just took a job I needed 1 hour to do and crammed it into 30 minutes. We are all on a time table so to speak, so if a model’s tardiness makes my job less than perfect, that does not make me happy. Also, it’s the model’s job to project the look that the hair, makeup and wardrobe are doing on her, not to tell us how to do it. Most of the time, we’re doing what a client or magazine editor is saying and it’s not even our call as to what to do. So to complain that you don’t like something, is very unprofessional. We also want to see the model have fun with the day, because we do!
What do you look for in a model's skin ?
Flawless. Her skin is her canvas and it’s her job to take care of it. Skin discolorations are easy to cover up, but skin texture is harder to make perfect for the camera. So no sunburns, breakouts, dry skin, etc. A model really must take excellent care of her skin. As a makeup artist, I can only work with what is given to me, and skin textures are very hard to change. Photoshop may take care of some of it, but most budgets don’t have it to retouch the face for hours, so what you see is what you get!
Thank you Elke it was our great pleasure to work with you.
